President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the construction of four new parking buildings in Malé under India’s Line of Credit facility.

Speaking to residents of Henveiru at Kalaafaanu School yesterday evening, President Muizzu said the developments aim to address congestion and parking issues raised by residents. Two buildings will be constructed in Malé, one in Vilimalé, and one in Hulhumalé.

“Two of these buildings are in Malé, and one is in Vilimalé, where you get off the bridge, as Vilimalé is a pedestrian location.  You will need to park as soon as you get off the bridge,” he said.

While he noted the project is underway, with drawings being sent to India, he did not outline a timeline for this project.

He added that other parking challenges could be addressed in cooperation with the Malé City Council. While he did not mention any additional measures regarding parking fee forgiveness, he noted that a gazetted policy currently allows residents to repay outstanding fees in instalments, with over 1,000 people having entered such agreements so far.

President Muizzu also reaffirmed his commitment to addressing correspondence directed to him, pledging to expedite replies and clear the existing backlog. He said opportunities would be available for in-person meetings with the President, while members of the public would continue to have the option of presenting their concerns directly to Ministers at the President’s Office.
