The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that training for officials assigned to the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections will commence on 10 January, as part of efforts to ensure adequately qualified personnel are deployed at polling stations across the country.
The commission reported that over 3,700 applications have been received so far, while a total of 7,000 officials are required to effectively administer the elections. Recruitment is continuing to address the shortfall, with all training scheduled to be completed by 27 March after the certification of training staff.
Specialised and role-specific training will be conducted on every inhabited island. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and are not permitted to hold senior leadership positions within political parties. The deadline for applications has been set for 21 December. The Local Council Election is scheduled to take place on 4 April.
