Two expatriates have been arrested in Malé for allegedly preparing and selling liquor from a rented residence.
The arrests were carried out during a raid by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department as part of a New Year–targeted operation named “Riveli.”
The suspects have been identified as Indian nationals Mohandas Rajendran, 22, and Balasubramaniam Selam, 41.
Police said officers searched a rented house in Malé and recovered liquor along with equipment used to produce alcohol from the third floor of the building, which had been leased by the two men.
The case remains under investigation, and the suspects have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
