The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has reinforced its position as the largest political party in the Maldives, now boasting 74,048 members, according to the latest statistics released by the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).

The ECM’s figures indicate modest increases for other parties, with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) now holding 43,784 members and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) reporting 9,686 members.

Several other parties currently have smaller memberships. The Adhaalath Party has 8,267 members, the Jumhoory Party 12,343, the Maldives National Party 5,133, and the People’s National Front 3,012. The Democrats currently maintain 2,952 members.

The PNC has publicly set a target of reaching 100,000 members and has intensified efforts to expand its base following the dissolution of the PPM last year. Rapid growth has prompted scrutiny, with allegations of irregularities in membership processes, including reports of individuals being registered without their consent.
