Two Maldivians Arrested in Male’ With Over One-Kilo of Drugs

Two Maldivian youths have been arrested in Male’ in connection with the possession of over one kilogramme of drugs.
The Maldives Police Service reported that the suspects were apprehended during a counter-narcotics operation carried out by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Monday. Following their arrest, a search of an apartment in Male’ led to the seizure of more than one kilogramme of drugs. The Police have not disclosed further details regarding the type of drugs seized.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohamed Evan Haamid, 23, from Valuthereyge, GDh. Madaveli, and Mohamed Raid Ali As’ar, 31, from H. Sakeena Manzil. Both suspects have been remanded in custody for seven days by the court.
During the remand hearing, Raid requested house arrest, citing serious mental health issues and claiming he had previously been exploited to commit criminal activities. The court, however, denied the request and maintained the remand.
The Police have confirmed that the case remains under further investigation.
