The project to establish a dedicated Media Village for local media outlets has reached 70 percent completion, according to the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ibrahim Waheed.

The update was shared during a press conference held at the President’s Office, where progress on the government’s media sector development initiatives was outlined.

The Media Village is a key component of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s development pledges and is being developed within the former City Hotel building located in the first phase of Hulhumale’. The building was originally constructed by the State Trading Organization 17 years ago and was handed over to World of Business Pvt Ltd in August last year for redevelopment.

The structure is currently being transformed into the Manhattan Grand complex, a multi-purpose facility that will also accommodate a Youth Centre, a Medical College, and a Heritage College alongside the Media Village.

The Minister stated that the majority of construction work has now been completed and that progress is being monitored on a daily basis through the Housing Development Corporation, underscoring the administration’s priority in delivering the project.

The Media Village project aligns with the President’s broader commitment to strengthening the media sector, including plans to allocate a dedicated percentage of the state budget to support media development.
