Local Farmer App Set to Launch Ahead of Ramadan
Dhanduveriya farmer app expected to launch prior to the upcoming Ramadan
The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare is working to make the Dhanduveriya farmer application available for use before the upcoming Ramadan.
Originally launched as a web-based platform in 2002, Dhanduveriya has now been developed into a mobile application, with the beta testing phase completed, according to state media. The ministry plans to introduce the application in selected pilot areas ahead of Ramadan.
The platform is designed to collect agricultural data and facilitate investment in farming islands, with the aim of supporting projects that strengthen the national agriculture sector.
As preparations for Ramadan continue, farming activities in key agricultural islands such as Alif Alif Thoddoo and Thaa Kandoodhoo are progressing well, with fields already producing crops. Farmers in these islands anticipate increased income during the Ramadan period, including higher earnings from vegetable exports such as cucumbers.
Farmers in Kandoodhoo are also actively preparing for the season, focusing on maximising production ahead of the expected rise in demand.
Despite the positive outlook, farmers have expressed concerns based on losses experienced last year. Some reported that their harvests were not profitable and failed to cover production costs, while others said several plots were severely damaged due to heavy rainfall.
