Second Phase of Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Progresses

The second phase of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project is progressing steadily, with major construction activities advancing according to schedule, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated.

Sheet piling works are currently underway, with 48 metres completed so far, while reclamation works are also ongoing. Contractors have begun paving pedestrian lanes, and sewer and water pipeline installation has reached 50 per cent completion, according to MTCC.

The project aims to improve accessibility in Malé City through the development of modern, pedestrian-friendly roads.

Authorities initially closed the area in December after completing the first phase of the project and subsequently commenced work on the second segment. MTCC is overseeing the development.

Meanwhile, some residents have expressed concerns over the removal of trees along streets near nearby shops. Several social media users have shared images showing trees being uprooted and cut down during the construction process.

The expansion is expected to increase North Harbour’s total capacity to 74 vessels, including 54 berths for cargo and passenger vessels, 20 berths for fishing vessels, and a waiting area capable of accommodating up to 25 vessels.

Under the new arrangements, services at North Harbour will be limited to vessels registered under the harbour. Vessel registration is available through the Harbour software portal, which also allows users to request services.
