Maldives Police recovered stolen and lost property valued at an estimated MVR 2.6 million in December 2025, according to operational data released by the Malé Police Command.
The recovered items included 38 bicycles with a total value of MVR 1.84 million, 18 mobile phones worth MVR 154,228, and four electronic devices valued at MVR 19,730. Police also recovered MVR 416,320.80 linked to 40 money laundering cases, along with MVR 243,467.22 from 50 other cases.
Data showed an increase in money laundering cases during the month, with 40 incidents recorded in December compared to 32 in November. Recovery efforts were also stepped up, resulting in the retrieval of 110 bicycles, 31 mobile phones, and 12 electronic devices, representing a notable rise from the previous month.
Authorities indicated that gaps in existing laws continue to limit enforcement in certain areas. In response, police are expanding their presence on the streets and improving access to assistance, with the aim of strengthening public safety and making recovery processes more effective.
