Four Men Arrested Over Alleged Kidnapping and Extortion in Hulhumalé

Four men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a man and extorting money from him inside a flat in the MPL Tower in Hulhumalé.

Police said officers carried out a search of the flat under a court order and successfully rescued the victim, who was taken to hospital for treatment before being handed over to his family.

The suspects include three men from Addu City and one from Thinadhoo. Two of the men are 23 years old, while the other two are 24. All four were produced before the court and remanded for 15 days.

Authorities noted that kidnapping cases continue to surface periodically. On 1 September last year, two youths were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a man, filming him naked, and robbing him of money.
