Sharp-edged fan clams have been found in the shallow waters near Rasfannu, a popular swimming and beach area, prompting warnings for those walking barefoot during low tide.
Ali Musthafa highlighted the issue on social media, sharing photographs taken while snorkelling that show numerous fan clams partially buried in the sand. The shells are noted for their very sharp edges, posing a potential risk to people walking barefoot in the water.

Musthafa also marked areas with the highest concentration of shells on a map, indicating that the majority are located near the Rasfannu restaurant beach.
He added that while the clams are edible, removing them could help reduce both their numbers and the risk of injuries to swimmers. Rasfannu remains a popular site for swimming, exercise classes, and visits by children and elderly residents.
