Over 510 Applications Submitted in First 24 Hours of ‘Emmenah Boahiyaavahikan’ Housing Policy

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has received 518 applications for land and flats from the Male’ area within 24 hours of opening submissions under the current administration’s ‘Emmenah Boahiyaavahikan’ policy.

Launched last November, the policy, which translates as ‘Housing for All’, opened applications for residents of Male’ yesterday. Of the applications received so far, 399 were for flats and 119 for land, while a further 3,836 forms remain in draft stages, according to the ministry.

Applications can be submitted via the ministry’s website. Applications for land plots must be submitted by 11:59pm on 4 March 2026, while applications for flats will close at 11:59pm on 17 April 2026.

Under the land allocation scheme, a total of 15,000 plots measuring 1,250 square feet each will be issued from locations within the Greater Malé region and Ras Malé. The scheme is targeted at Malé residents seeking land for residential development. Meanwhile, under the flat allocation scheme, 7,900 housing units will be allocated within the Greater Malé region, according to the announcement.

Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib stated that all ongoing housing projects will be completed and handed over before the end of the current administration’s five-year term. He emphasised that the projects currently being announced, including land plots and apartment developments, are fully financed and backed by secured funding, ensuring their implementation will not stall. Construction has not yet begun on any of the housing projects announced for the Greater Malé area by the current government.
