Applications have been opened for flats and land to be issued under the ‘Housing for Families’ programme, being implemented as part of the government’s ‘Housing for All’ policy.

The Ministry of Housing announced that eligible applicants can now submit applications for housing units and land allocations through the programme, which aims to expand access to housing for families across the country. The ministry had initially planned to open applications last Thursday but postponed the launch, citing concerns that it would not be able to adequately respond to public inquiries and complaints over the weekend that followed.

Applications must be submitted online via the official portal.

Under the land allocation scheme, a total of 15,000 plots measuring 1,250 square feet each will be issued from locations within the Greater Malé region and Ras Malé. The scheme is targeted at Malé residents seeking land for residential development.

Meanwhile, under the flat allocation scheme, 7,900 housing units will be allocated within the Greater Malé region, according to the announcement.

The government has also announced application deadlines for both schemes. Applications for land plots must be submitted by 11:59pm on 4 March 2026, while applications for flats will close at 11:59pm on 17 April 2026.

The Housing for Families programme is one of the government’s key initiatives under the Housing for All policy framework, intended to address long-standing housing needs and improve access to affordable housing.
