Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has begun dispatching ambulances to 56 islands as part of a government initiative aimed at ensuring sustainable ambulance services across the country.

The company was assigned the task of procuring and delivering ambulances to the islands in 2025 under a contractor finance model. A total of more than USD 4.23 million has been spent on the project.

All ambulances have now been brought to the Maldives in three phases, and the keys have been handed over to the recipient islands. The delivery process is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The expansion of ambulance services is set to continue this year, with plans to procure ambulances for a further 31 islands. In addition, 10 paramedic ambulances will be procured to strengthen emergency response services in the Greater Male’ Area.
