Japan Donates USD 4.3 Million Disaster Response Equipment to Maldives

The Government of Japan has donated disaster response equipment valued at approximately USD 4.3 million (MVR 66.4 million) to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme.
The equipment was formally handed over by Ishigami Rumiko, Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, and received by NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan.
The project is being implemented under an agreement signed on 24 March 2024. The first phase of the donation includes 40 fire pumps, 40 water pumps, and other related equipment.
The National Disaster Management Authority acknowledges, with sincere appreciation, the generous contribution of disaster response equipment valued at approximately USD 4.3 million from the Government of Japan under the Economic and Social Development Programme .

NDMA said on social media that the support will significantly strengthen national capacity in flood management and firefighting, particularly in outer island communities.
The authority expressed its gratitude for Japan’s long-standing partnership and continued commitment to enhancing disaster resilience in the Maldives.
