Maldives Records Highest Single-Day Tourist Arrivals

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives continue to rise, with the country recording its highest number of arrivals in a single day on Sunday, surpassing the previous record set on 1 February.
Data from the Tourism Ministry shows that 10,462 tourists arrived on Sunday, exceeding the earlier record of 10,253 arrivals. So far this year, the Maldives has welcomed 295,589 tourists, marking a 5.6 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Russia had been the leading source market as of the start of the month, but China overtook Russia this week, with 37,304 arrivals compared to Russia’s 35,963. Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany ranked as the third, fourth, and fifth largest source markets, respectively.
Resorts remained the most popular accommodation choice, accounting for 68 per cent of all tourist stays. Guesthouses made up 27 per cent, while hotels accounted for 2.7 per cent of arrivals.
Currently, 179 resorts operate across 19 atolls in the Maldives, alongside 113 guesthouses spread across 20 atolls.
