The government has announced that the high-speed Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service will be launched in Laamu and Meemu Atolls before the end of March.

The announcement was made by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen during a press conference held on 4 March, highlighting continued progress in the administration’s national transport initiative.

Operated by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC), the RTL ferry network forms a key part of the government’s policy to provide sustainable and affordable transport links between islands across the Maldives. The upcoming expansion follows the recent launch of the service in Faafu and Dhaalu Atolls last month.

With the next phase of expansion, high-speed ferry services are expected to connect islands across Laamu and Meemu Atolls. The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-island connectivity through the nationwide ferry network.

The expansion also aligns with priorities outlined in the Presidential Address earlier this year, in which President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced plans to extend the service to all remaining atolls by June.

When the RTL service is introduced in a new atoll, residents are offered a week of free travel to familiarise themselves with the service. Following this period, subsidised fares are applied for both inter-island travel and routes connecting neighbouring atolls.
