For the first time in the Maldives, a hysteroscopic myomectomy has been successfully performed at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, marking a milestone in the country’s advancement in minimally invasive gynaecological treatment.

The procedure involves the removal of fibroids from the uterus using a small camera inserted through the natural passage, allowing doctors to carry out the surgery with minimal cutting.

According to the hospital, the surgery was performed by gynaecologist Dr Talha. The hospital described the achievement as an important step forward in expanding access to modern minimally invasive gynaecological procedures in the Maldives.

Following the successful operation, the hospital stated that modern hysteroscopic services will now be available at the facility. These services will include the removal of polyps, fibroids and uterine septums.

The hospital also announced that infertility assessment services will now be offered as part of the expanded care available to patients.

According to the hospital, the procedure requires only a very small incision and leaves no visible external scarring. This approach is expected to improve patient safety while enabling faster recovery times.
