An agreement has been signed between Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Ministry of Health to hand over the maintenance and repair of ambulances and other health facility vehicles across the Maldives.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday, with State Minister Ismail Abdulla representing the Health Ministry and Deputy CEO Mohamed Mueen signing on behalf of MPL.

Under the agreement, MPL will be responsible for servicing and repairing ambulances stationed at hospitals and health centres across the atolls.

The move comes after MPL completed a nationwide ambulance delivery programme, supplying vehicles to 56 islands. Awarded the contract last year, the company procured and distributed ambulances as part of the Health Ministry’s initiative to strengthen emergency medical services.

According to MPL, the deliveries were finalized last month. In addition to handing over the vehicles, the company’s mechanical team provided technical guidance to hospital and health centre staff on operating, maintaining, and repairing the ambulances.
