A total of MVR 86,800 has been reported lost in theft cases across Malé over the past two days, according to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service.
Police stated that MVR 62,400 in losses were reported to the Maafannu Police Station during the 48-hour period, while MVR 24,400 was reported to the Henveiru Police Station, bringing the total reported losses to MVR 86,800.
During the same period, police also recovered funds linked to several cases. The statistics show that MVR 2,400 was recovered by Maafannu Police, MVR 224,600 by Galolhu Police Station and MVR 4,000 by Henveiru Police.
Police also recorded a combined total of 91 traffic accidents in Malé over the two-day period. Henveiru Police reported 21 accidents, Galolhu Police recorded 33, while Maafannu Police recorded 37 incidents.
While accident numbers had declined last month, police noted an increase during the first week of Ramadan, with 90 accidents reported during that period alone.
Police have urged motorists to reduce speed and remain attentive while driving in order to minimise accidents. Authorities also noted that theft cases tend to increase during Ramadan and advised the public to remain vigilant.
