A cruise ship carrying more than 1,300 passengers and crew has arrived in Malé after making an earlier stop in Haa Dhaalu Uligan.
Immigration authorities said the cruise ship Vasco da Gama, which departed from Colombo in Sri Lanka, docked in Uligan early on Friday where the necessary entry permits were issued before continuing its journey.
A total of 1,348 people, including passengers and crew members, arrived in the Maldives on board the vessel. The ship, operated by a German company, has the capacity to carry up to 1,000 passengers and 550 crew members.
Uligan, located at the northernmost tip of the Maldives, serves as an important port of entry for yachts and vessels travelling between the Red Sea and Europe from destinations such as Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia and Thailand.
After spending a day in Uligan, the cruise ship continued its voyage and has now arrived in Malé.
The vessel began its journey from Bali, Indonesia, on February 27 and made stops in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka before reaching the Maldives.
From Malé, the ship is scheduled to continue its journey to Oman, with the voyage expected to conclude in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
