Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated that it has not held any discussions with the government regarding an increase in fees for boats using the North Harbour area in Malé City.

In a press release issued, the company said recent claims circulating about a fee hike were baseless and untrue. MPL clarified that no changes have been made to the charges for vessels operating in the North Harbour.

The company also noted that services at the harbour have been expanded as part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project. Water and electricity are now available for vehicles using Zone A, while the layout of the area was changed on Saturday in an effort to reduce waiting times for cargo vessels.

MPL further confirmed that boats using Zones D, E and F of the harbour will not be charged any fees.

According to the company, the only change introduced following the outer road development is that the area will no longer be used by vehicles that are not registered with the relevant authorities.

MPL stated that the North Harbour remains a vital service for many citizens and expressed concern over the spread of false information that could create unnecessary public concern. The company also urged the public not to share unverified claims regarding its services.
