The State Trading Organization (STO) has received a new shipment of cooking gas, enabling Maldive Gas to resume the sale of 10kg cylinders without restrictions.

STO stated that the latest shipment has stabilised supply, with sufficient stocks now available to meet demand. Gas distribution is expected to continue without interruption.

Shortages had intensified over the past two months following delays in multiple shipments, causing disruptions in Malé and across the atolls. Customers reported long waiting times for deliveries, leading to a rise in public complaints.

The supply constraints were linked to disruptions in global oil and gas markets, including delays associated with the escalating situation in the Middle East. To manage limited stocks, Maldive Gas introduced temporary measures such as filling only 5kg into 10kg cylinders and selling them at MVR 100, while also suspending supply to new customers to ensure equitable distribution.

With the arrival of the new shipment, STO has confirmed that delivery services have returned to normal operations.

The company reiterated that maintaining uninterrupted access to essential services remains a key priority.
