President Muizzu Commends Scouting as Model for Humanitarian Service on Maldives Scouts’ 70th anniversary

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended his congratulations to the Maldivian scouting community at an event held yesterday to mark the 70th anniversary of scouting in the country, describing the movement as a model for humanitarian service.

In his address marking the occasion, President Muizzu praised the role of scouting in national and social development. He noted that scouting provides a practical platform for young people to develop moral values, confidence, self-reliance and leadership skills. He added that the movement serves as a unifying force, connecting young people across the country and fostering links between communities.

The President highlighted that scouting cultivates values such as volunteerism, leadership, courage, preparedness and humanitarian service, describing these as qualities that inspire society and strengthen the spirit of service. He also stated that these values align closely with principles encouraged in Islam.

Reflecting on his own experiences as a scout, President Muizzu noted the positive influence the movement had during his formative years.

The President also acknowledged the efforts of the Scout Association of Maldives in promoting scouting nationwide and reaffirmed the Government’s continued support for its work. He further recognised the contributions of individuals who have served the Association and the wider scouting movement over the past seven decades, extending his congratulations to the entire scouting community.

Concluding his remarks, President Muizzu expressed hope that scouting would continue to strengthen established bonds, encourage mutual support and nurture a stronger culture of community service across the country.

The President also shared a message on his X account marking the occasion, describing scouting as a widely respected service and a source of national pride. He further noted that it is the country’s largest volunteer movement, fostering a strong brotherhood of individuals committed to national service.

Additionally, President Muizzu shared photographs on his Instagram account from his time as a Cub Scout and Scout, launching the “Let’s see the Scout in you” challenge to encourage the public to share memories of their involvement in scouting.

The President’s Office stated that President Muizzu commended scouting as a model for humanitarian service and youth development during his address at the anniversary event.

According to the Presidents Office, the Government remains committed to supporting the Scout Association of Maldives in expanding its programmes and outreach nationwide.
