Phase 3 of Boduthakurufaanu Magu Redevelopment Underway

As of 25 March, Phase 3 of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment is now underway, with major changes to traffic and transport already in effect.

The section of the road between Henveiru Ferry Terminal and Chandhanee Magu has been closed since midnight on 23 March, along with nearby access lanes.

Traffic has been diverted, with the road near Barcelos Nasandhura now serving as an exit route.

Authorities had required all parked vehicles to be cleared beforehand and warned of disruptions, which are now being experienced as work progresses.

Construction is currently taking place across segments two to five, focusing on widening and modernising this key stretch of the capital’s main coastal road.

At the same time, phased lagoon closures have begun. The first section—from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Fishermen’s Park—is already closed, with further closures planned for 30 March and 17 April, gradually extending toward Izzuddeen Jetty.

Transport services have also been adjusted. Ferry operations previously based at Henveiru Terminal have already been relocated to Maafannu and Hulhumalé terminals.

Overall, the redevelopment remains on track, with completion still expected around April or May, although commuters are currently navigating temporary disruptions as Phase 3 progresses.
