Belarus’ national airline, Belavia, has announced plans to launch direct flights to the Maldives, marking a step forward in strengthening air connectivity between the two countries.

The airline is scheduled to begin operations in August, initially introducing the service on a trial basis. Belavia intends to operate between six and eight trial flights before assessing market demand and operational considerations to determine whether to establish a permanent schedule.

The Maldives has been identified by Belavia as a promising long-haul destination, prompting the airline to explore entry into the market as part of its network expansion strategy.

The planned launch comes as airlines continue to adjust operations in response to global disruptions, particularly those linked to the Middle East conflict. Several carriers have increased services to the Maldives amid shifting travel patterns.

British Airways has increased its weekly frequency to the Maldives from three to four flights, with further plans to raise this to five or six depending on demand. Switzerland’s Edelweiss Air has scheduled 20 flights to the Maldives in April, while Russia’s Aeroflot has also expanded services between Moscow and Malé.

Meanwhile, German airline Condor has announced plans to resume flights to the Maldives during the summer season, with services operating from Frankfurt to Velana International Airport four times a week from 1 May until October.

Despite ongoing global travel challenges, the Maldives remains accessible, supported by a wide range of international air connections and infrastructure catering to both commercial and private aviation.
