Hajj Corporation stresses vaccination compliance for pilgrims

The Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited has urged all Hajj pilgrims to complete their mandatory vaccinations ahead of this year’s pilgrimage.

The corporation warned that pilgrims who fail to meet vaccination requirements will not be permitted to enter Saudi Arabia or perform Hajj and Umrah, in line with regulations set by Saudi authorities.

Vaccinations are required due to the large number of worshippers gathering annually for Hajj, with health measures aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases. The mandatory vaccines include meningococcal conjugate, influenza and oral polio.

Managing Director of the Maldives Hajj Corporation Mohamed Shakeel said during a programme on PSM News that around 60 pilgrims have yet to complete the required vaccinations, although the process is currently ongoing.

He urged all pilgrims to complete their vaccinations as soon as possible, noting that those who do not comply will be barred from entering Saudi Arabia.

Health officials have advised pilgrims to take vaccinations early, as some may cause mild side effects such as fever or a runny nose. They added that early vaccination allows sufficient time for recovery and ensures maximum protection ahead of travel.

The first group of Maldivian pilgrims is scheduled to depart on 15 May, with four flights arranged for this year’s pilgrimage. An advance team is expected to leave for Mecca on 4 May.
