President Dr Mohamed Muizzu appointed Mohamed Hussain Shareef as Chief Government Spokesperson at the President’s Office yesterday, with ministerial rank.

Mohamed Hussain Shareef has previously served as a Cabinet member and as Ambassador of the Maldives to several countries. He also held the role of Chief Government Spokesperson at the President’s Office from 2005 to 2007 and served as Presidential Spokesperson from 2007 to 2008. In addition, he played a key role in establishing the Strategic Communications Unit at the President’s Office.

Most recently, he served as Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates.

The position was previously held by Heena Waleed, who served concurrently as Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Protection Agency and spokesperson for the President’s Office. She was appointed Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage on Tuesday as part of the Cabinet reshuffle.
