A direct flight for Umrah pilgrims has been scheduled to depart from Addu City to Saudi Arabia for the first time in the Maldives, marking a significant development in pilgrimage travel.

Traditionally, all Umrah pilgrims from the Maldives have travelled via Velana International Airport, the country’s main international gateway. The new arrangement will allow pilgrims to depart directly from Gan International Airport to Jeddah, facilitating a more convenient travel option.

The direct service has been organised by The Travelers in collaboration with the national airline Maldivian. The agency stated that the introduction of the route is expected to significantly reduce travel time for pilgrims.

Bookings for the flight are expected to open soon. The airline will operate the service using a Maldivian wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft with a seating capacity of 264 passengers.
