President Dr Mohamed Muizzu established the Citizens’ Complaints Bureau and the Maldives National Territory & Sovereignty Office last Thursday.
The Bureau has been set up within the President’s Office to provide a 24-hour service for citizens to submit their concerns and grievances. The President announced the decision during his Presidential Address to the People’s Majlis on 5 February this year.
Operations are scheduled to begin mid-year, with the President’s Office currently undertaking administrative arrangements and recruitment.
The Bureau will process public grievances through a digital system designed to track complaints received through various channels and ensure timely responses. It will coordinate with relevant government agencies to gather information and address cases. A 24-hour call centre will also be established as part of its services.
On the same day, President Muizzu also established the Maldives National Territory & Sovereignty Office within the President’s Office.
The Office has been mandated to define the territorial boundaries of the Maldives and conduct research and oversight on matters related to the country’s territory in a sustainable manner. The President first announced plans for the office during the 5 February Presidential Address.
Its responsibilities include coordinating with government agencies and international parties to resolve boundary-related issues, determining the coordinates of the Maldives’ official baselines and boundary limits, and producing boundary maps and related instruments.
Administrative preparations and recruitment are currently underway to enable the office to begin operations.
