Over Half of Voters Cast Ballots in Additional Election Rounds by 2 PM

More than half of the eligible voters have cast their ballots by 2:00 PM in the additional rounds of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) said.

In an update on turnout, ECM stated that 55.03 percent of eligible voters had voted by 2:00 PM, comprising 1,625 women and 1,728 men.

Out of a total of 6,093 eligible voters, 3,353 had cast their ballots by the reported time. This includes 2,901 women and 3,192 men on the eligible voter register. A total of 2,740 voters, or 44.97 percent, had yet to vote.

Polls opened at 8:00 AM and are scheduled to close at 4:00 PM across five constituencies. These include the election of a member for the seat reserved for women in the Baa Atoll Donfanu Council and a councillor for the Fuvahmulah City Dadimagu constituency, which is also reserved for women.

Additional WDC elections are also ongoing to elect the president of the Haa Alifu Atoll Kelaa committee, as well as members for the Haa Dhaalu Atoll Neykurendhoo committee and the Laamu Atoll Maavah committee.
