Polls Close in Re-run of Local Council, WDC Elections

Voting has concluded across all polling stations in today’s re-run of the 2026 Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, with ballot boxes now closed in all constituencies.

Polls opened at 8:00 a.m. and closed at 4:00 p.m. across five constituencies. These include the election of a women’s reserved seat in the Baa Atoll Donfanu Council and a councillor for the Fuvahmulah City Dadimagu constituency, which is also reserved for women.

A total of 14 ballot boxes were placed for the re-run, located within the participating constituencies as well as in Malé. Two boxes each were allocated to Kelaa, Maavah and the Dadimagu ward of Fuvahmulah, while one box each was placed in Neykurendhoo and Donfanu.

According to the Elections Commission of Maldives, 6,093 voters were registered for the re-run. This includes 1,729 voters in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Donfanu, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in the Fuvahmulah Dadimagu ward.

Turnout remained moderate throughout the day. By 2:00 p.m., 3,353 voters had cast their ballots. The figure rose to 3,892 by 3:00 p.m., leaving 2,201 eligible voters yet to vote at that time.
