Representatives and delegates attending the Asia Media Summit have begun arriving in the Maldives ahead of the regional event scheduled to begin this week.
The summit is being organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development in collaboration with Public Service Media.
The event will be held from 11 to 14 May at Villa Nautica and is expected to bring together more than 200 delegates from countries across the Asia-Pacific region, including senior broadcasting and media officials.
This year’s summit is being held under the theme “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech”.
Organisers said final preparations for the event are currently underway. Five pre-summit workshops scheduled for 11 May will focus on the use of artificial intelligence in storytelling and news production, the growing importance of AI technology, maintaining media credibility in the AI era, and the role of media in climate change adaptation.
The official opening ceremony of the summit is set to take place on 12 May, with plenary sessions continuing on 13 May.
The summit will conclude on 14 May with a coral planting event in Kudagiri.
According to organisers, the summit aims to strengthen cooperation among broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region, encourage discussions on responsible and future-focused broadcasting, establish development goals, and maintain bilateral ties within the media sector.
