A motion seeking the removal of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim has been formally submitted to the Parliament Secretariat, according to an announcement issued by Parliament on Thursday.
In a statement posted on social media, Parliament said a resolution calling for the removal of the Deputy Speaker, Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim, had been received by the Secretariat and would proceed in accordance with the Constitution and parliamentary standing orders.

The move follows reports that the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) had gathered the required signatures to submit the motion after Nazim reportedly declined requests to resign from the post.
Nazim has faced a series of changes to his position within the ruling party in recent weeks. He was removed last month from two of parliament’s most influential committees — the Security Services Committee, commonly referred to as the “241 Committee”, and the Public Finance Committee — and was later reassigned to the Environment Committee.
He was also removed from the PNC parliamentary group’s official WhatsApp platform, which is administered by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and serves as the primary communication channel for the party’s MPs.
Despite the developments, Nazim has continued to perform his parliamentary duties, regularly presiding over sittings in the absence of Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Neither the President’s Office nor Nazim has publicly commented on the reasons behind the motion.
Nazim is among the most experienced members of the current parliament and previously served as Vice-Speaker between 2009 and 2015.
