Yellow Alert Issued as Torrential Rain Expected Across Northern Atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a yellow alert for the regions from Haa Alif Atoll to Raa Atoll as torrential rain and thunderstorms are expected within the coming hours.

The alert covers the region from Haa Alifu Atoll to Raa Atoll, with severe weather conditions expected between 10:30 hrs and 12:30 hrs today.

Gusty winds of up to 35 mph and rough seas are also forecast during this period, with authorities warning of potentially hazardous conditions for sea travel and coastal activities.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

• White alert: Alert Level 1
• Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
• Orange warning: Alert Level 3
• Red warning: Alert Level 4
