Construction of the facility began in August 2025, facilitated by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

A newly constructed police station has been officially opened in B. Maalhos as part of ongoing efforts to expand policing infrastructure and transition Maldives Police Service operations into state-owned facilities across the country.

The station was inaugurated today by Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan, alongside Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikury, B. Maalhos Council President Mohamed Thoriq Abdul Razzag, police officials, council members, and residents.

During the event, commemorative certificates were presented to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the Maalhos Council in recognition of their support in the project.

Construction of the facility began in August 2025 after the foundation stone was laid. The project was contracted to MTCC and includes an administrative section as well as staff accommodation facilities.

The development is part of a wider government policy to establish police stations on every inhabited island by the end of the current presidential term, with authorities previously stating that improved local policing is intended to enhance response times and service delivery.

In March last year, the Maldives Police Service signed agreements with MTCC, Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC) to develop 75 police infrastructure projects nationwide.

According to police, when the current administration took office, 70 residential islands did not have a dedicated police presence. The programme aims to establish facilities across all residential islands, except those affected by planned population consolidation policies.

Authorities have said the expansion includes police stations, island posts, regional and atoll-level facilities, as well as accommodation blocks for officers, with the broader goal of improving operational efficiency and reducing response times across the country.
