Court Orders Closure of Suspected Drug Consumption Venue in Maradhoo-Feydhoo

The Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate Court has ordered the closure of a house in S. Maradhoo-Feydhoo suspected of being used to facilitate drug consumption, marking the first such order issued by the court under the Drugs Act.

The property, known as “Umeedge”, has been ordered closed for 90 days from 15 June 2026 following suspicions that it was being used to provide drug consumption services in Addu City, according to the police.

The order was granted under provisions of the Drugs Act and is the first venue closure of its kind issued by the Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate Court, the police stated.

Authorities also warned that entering or leaving premises closed under a court order without authorisation during the specified period constitutes a criminal offence. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters the property or causes damage to it, stated the police.

The announcement highlighted ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug-related activities in Addu City, while thanking members of the public for their continued assistance and cooperation.

According to the police, operations conducted under powers granted by the Drugs Act will continue without interruption. Efforts are also underway to identify additional properties being used for drug trafficking or drug consumption services and close them in accordance with the law.
