Man Arrested on Suspicion of Smuggling Over a Kilogram of Drugs into the Maldives

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in V. Keyodhoo on suspicion of smuggling more than a kilogram of drugs into the Maldives, as well as selling and trafficking illegal substances.

The suspect has been identified as Fauzan Ahmed Hussain, 25, of Sandyside, V. Keyodhoo.

According to the police, the arrest was made during an operation launched after the Maldives Customs Service provided intelligence regarding the illegal import of more than a kilogram of drugs into the country.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Drug Enforcement, Counter Narcotics Intelligence, V. Atoll Police, and the Maldives Customs Service.

The Maldives Police Service stated that Fauzan was arrested on 18 June during the operation and was later presented before the court for a remand hearing.

The court ordered that he remain in custody until the conclusion of his trial, as stated by the police.

The police are continuing to investigate the case.
