According to the President’s Office, the Vice President attended the Leaders Gala Dinner hosted by the UN’s Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung ahead of the forum’s opening. At the High-Level Leaders Session, Latheef called for stronger international cooperation and increased climate finance to support vulnerable countries facing the growing challenges of climate mobility. He stressed that responses must prioritise community resilience and ensure that any movement of people is planned, voluntary and dignified.

He also delivered a statement at a high-level panel discussion on protecting rights in the face of sea-level rise. He highlighted the need for sustained investment in adaptation and coordinated action across all levels of governance, stressing that communities should be supported to remain in their homes wherever possible and with dignity.

As part of his engagements, the Vice President attended the Champions Breakfast, a closed-door dialogue convened by organisers to review key outcomes from the forum, strengthen cooperation and advance commitments under the Global Consensus on Climate Mobility.

Throughout the forum, Latheef presented the Maldives’ position on climate mobility principles and reiterated calls for increased climate financing and stronger adaptation support for vulnerable nations.
