Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier Flynas has resumed scheduled flights to the Maldives, launching three weekly services between Riyadh and Velana International Airport (VIA) to strengthen air connectivity between the two countries.
The airline resumed operations on Saturday with the arrival of Flynas flight XY245 from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. Airport authorities welcomed the aircraft with a ceremonial water salute, while arriving passengers received a traditional Maldivian welcome featuring a Bodu Beru performance.
As part of the celebrations, special giveaways were presented to passengers arriving on the inaugural flight, as well as those travelling on the first outbound Flynas service departing from the Maldives.
The resumption of Flynas operations is expected to support growing travel demand from Saudi Arabia and provide passengers with additional options for travel between the Maldives and the Middle East. Saudi Arabia remains an important source market for Maldivian tourism, and the return of regular Flynas services is expected to improve access for travellers from the region.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the airline’s return further enhances connectivity between the Maldives and the Middle East while supporting the continued growth of the tourism and aviation sectors.
Velana International Airport, the Maldives’ main international gateway, continues to expand its airline network as passenger traffic grows. MACL stated that it will continue working with airline partners to improve connectivity, enhance passenger experience and support the long-term development of the country’s aviation and tourism industries.
