Parliament Approves Mohamed Shakeel For Vacant ECM Member Post
Mohamed Shakeel, Managing Director of Maldives Hajj Corporation and a member of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) senate, secured 51-7 votes in favor be appointed to the vacant ECM post.
Parliament has approved Mohamed Shakeel, Managing Director of Maldives Hajj Corporation and a member of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) senate, for appointment as a member of the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).
Shakeel was approved by a majority vote of 51–7 during the parliament sitting held today.

Shakeel would be filling a vacancy left by the resignation of former Commission President Mohamed Zahid, who stepped down from both his position as president and member of the Commission on 1 May. The reason for Zahid’s resignation was not disclosed.
The Elections Commission consists of five members, including Vice President Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed and members Hassan Zakariyya, Abdul Haseeb Ismail, and Al-Ustadh Rifaath Abdullah.
