President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a series of police infrastructure upgrades, including a new police headquarters in the Greater Malé area and the expansion of training facilities, during the official ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service.
Speaking at the ceremony held yesterday evening at the Maldives Centre for Social Education, the President said an additional police service centre and a modern police headquarters would be established in the Greater Malé area to improve public service delivery. He also announced that the Police Training Centre in Dh. Vaanee would be upgraded into a state-of-the-art training facility, while dedicated police facilities currently under development across the country are expected to be completed next year.
President Muizzu said the government remains committed to strengthening the Maldives’ national security services, describing the continued development of the country’s defence and law enforcement institutions as a national duty. He added that the government would continue introducing legislative reforms, adopting modern technologies, and strengthening human resource development to enhance policing capabilities.
The President described the Maldives Police Service as a vital pillar of the executive, responsible for maintaining public order and safeguarding peace and security. He paid tribute to police officers and their families, acknowledging the sacrifices they make in serving the nation.
He also noted that much of the work carried out by police officers often goes unnoticed despite its lasting contribution to society, adding that officers continue to serve with integrity, sincerity and patriotism.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and their families, President Muizzu said efforts would continue to expand housing opportunities and other support measures.
During the ceremony, the President presented the President’s Medal and the President’s Ribbon to police officers in recognition of exemplary service. He also awarded commemorative plaques to long-serving members of the Maldives Police Service for their dedicated service to the institution and the nation.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the ceremony alongside the President. The event was also attended by senior government officials, heads of state institutions, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The Maldives Police Service officially marked its 93rd anniversary on 29 March this year.
