In a letter to the MP, Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said construction-related injuries have shown a steady upward trend over the past four years.
He added that despite the increase in reported cases, unsafe construction practices continue to pose a serious safety concern.
In a recent incident in Malé on Saturday, two expatriate workers fell from the first floor of a building under construction while on duty. The injured workers were identified as a 22-year-old Nepali man and a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man.
Following the incident, the Malé City Council said it had identified the party responsible for negligence, taken action, and imposed a fine. The council also urged all citizens to prioritise safety measures and ensure that construction and other works are carried out in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
