Zakat Collections Reach MVR 7.59 Million in May 2026, up 75% Year-On-Year

Maldives Zakat House collected MVR 7.59 million in Zakat al-Maal during May 2026, marking a 75.3 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2025, when collections stood at MVR 4.33 million.
The institution said the rise reflects increased public participation in Zakat contributions and greater awareness of the importance of fulfilling Zakat obligations through official channels.
During May, Zakat House disbursed MVR 2.69 million through various assistance programmes under the categories of Poor and Needy, Fi Sabilillah, and Aamil.
Assistance to the Poor and Needy
The largest share of disbursements, MVR 1.48 million, went to the Poor and Needy category.
This included MVR 1.45 million for medical assistance to individuals requiring treatment and healthcare support, and MVR 31,000 for basic necessities assistance for those facing financial hardship and special circumstances.
Medical support accounted for the majority of aid distributed under this category during the month.
Support Through Fi Sabilillah Programmes
A total of MVR 1.04 million was disbursed under the Fi Sabilillah category, supporting education, religious learning and knowledge-based initiatives.
This included MVR 753,239 for Quran memorisation programmes, MVR 246,989 for the translation of Islamic books and educational materials, and MVR 37,008 to support individuals pursuing higher education.
Zakat House said these initiatives aim to strengthen Islamic knowledge and improve access to religious and educational resources.
The figures are based on Zakat Fund collection and disbursement records from the Ministry of Finance’s SAP system and may be subject to revision following updates or additional postings.
