Police Warn of Action Against Vehicles Parked Outside Designated Zones on Reopened Boduthakurufaanu Magu Section

The Maldives Police Service has warned that action will be taken against vehicles parked outside designated parking zones along Boduthakurufaanu Magu, following the reopening of the road’s northern section to general traffic.

Police issued the warning as the modernisation project on the northern side of Malé was completed, with Segments 2 to 5 now open to the public.

The reopened section stretches from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) headquarters. With the completion of the project, the entire outer ring of Boduthakurufaanu Magu around Malé is now open to traffic.

Police urged motorists to park only in designated areas, warning that vehicles parked elsewhere can disrupt traffic flow and compromise public safety.

The warning comes after the MVR 144.5 million redevelopment project, awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in April 2025, was completed.

The project covered 830 metres of road and included the construction of an asphalt base, 737 metres of sheet piling and a stormwater drainage system. The road was also widened to four lanes and resurfaced to improve traffic flow.

More than 3,000 coconut palms and other shade trees were planted along the coastal side of the road as part of the redevelopment, which was undertaken to help ease congestion in Malé by improving one of the city’s main ring roads.
