The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has warned that weather conditions are expected to deteriorate towards the end of the school holidays, advising travellers and seafarers to exercise caution.
MET has forecast light rain in various parts of the country on Sunday and Monday. However, weather conditions are expected to worsen later in the week, with heavy rain forecast nationwide from July 28 to 31.
The weather office has predicted periods of strong winds and heavy showers during this period, with authorities urging those travelling back after the holidays to remain cautious.
The Maldives has experienced sea accidents during periods of rough weather and strong winds in the past. MET and other relevant authorities continue to advise seafarers to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions whenever adverse weather conditions are forecast.
