MTCC Awarded Contract to Build Male’ Court Complex

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to construct the Male’ Court Complex, a project aimed at bringing together the operations of most courts in the capital under one facility.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure signed the agreement with MTCC on Saturday for the project, which is scheduled to be completed within 720 days, or approximately two years.

The agreement was signed by State Minister Yousuf Abdul Ghafoor on behalf of the ministry and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee on behalf of the company.
The first phase of the project will be developed on the land adjacent to Central Park in Male’.
The 14-storey complex will accommodate the High Court, Civil Court, Criminal Court, Family Court, Drug Court, Juvenile Court and magistrate-level functions under the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA). The DJA headquarters and the Supreme Court will remain outside the complex.
According to the government, the building will include modern facilities intended to improve the working environment for judges and enhance access to court services for the public.
The project comes as the judiciary continues to face a significant backlog of cases, with lengthy delays in court proceedings remaining a major public concern.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously said that one of the biggest challenges to speeding up the judicial process is the lack of adequate court space. He said the government would expand court capacity and provide the facilities and resources needed to improve the delivery of judicial services.
