Hulhumalé Hospital to Introduce Dental Services This Year

Hulhumalé Hospital is preparing to introduce dental laboratory services this year as part of efforts to expand healthcare services for residents of the capital region.

Speaking to state media, Hulhumalé Hospital Director General Moosa Kaleem Qasim said preparations are in their final stages to establish the dental laboratory, following the initiative highlighted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in his Presidential Address.

The planned laboratory will produce supplies required for dental services at hospitals in Malé and the atolls, according to Malé Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem.

The hospital is also working to expand mental health services, including increasing outpatient department (OPD) capacity and establishing a dedicated ward for patients requiring admission.

Haleem said the Government is undertaking several projects to expand healthcare capacity in the Malé region, including increasing resources at Hulhumalé Hospital and developing a new 250-bed hospital building.

Plans are also in place to develop a 500-bed hospital in Hulhumalé Phase 2, which will provide specialised services for cancer, women and children.

Meanwhile, Hulhumalé Hospital is preparing to install an additional MRI machine. The hospital currently operates with a single MRI and CT machine, with the additional equipment intended to strengthen capacity and help maintain uninterrupted services.

The hospital has recently introduced gastrointestinal OPD and urology services, EEG testing, a specialised neurology clinic and glaucoma treatment.

The expansion comes as authorities seek to improve healthcare access in the Malé region while larger hospital development projects remain under implementation.
