Coconut Pest Management Programme Concludes in Hanimaadhoo

The coconut pest management training programme concluded in Hanimaadhoo on Thursday, with Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua attending its closing ceremony and the inauguration of a Natural Enemy Breeding Centre.
According to the Embassy of China to the Maldives, Kong visited Hanimaadhoo from August 5 to 6 for the events, which focused on efforts to improve pest management in coconut cultivation. During the visit, he also met with the Hanimaadhoo Island Council and visited the island’s school and health centre.

The ambassador described the coconut pest control assistance project as a joint initiative supported by the leaders of China and the Maldives. He said Chinese experts had helped Maldivian technicians develop professional pest control skills through the programme.
Kong said the initiative reflects the two countries’ broader cooperation and the concept of building a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
During his meeting with the island council, Kong said China was ready to further strengthen cooperation between local communities in the two countries. He said China would support Hanimaadhoo’s sustainable development in areas including modern agriculture and clean energy.
