US Decision to Remove Syria from State Sponsors of Terrorism List Welcomed by Maldives

The Maldives has officially welcomed the decision by the United States to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, characterising the development as a crucial milestone towards regional stability and international reintegration.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, the Maldivian government expressed strong support for Washington’s delisting of Damascus. Maldivian diplomats noted that the move reflects significant diplomatic progress and aligns with broader international efforts to restore peace, security, and economic viability to Syria.

The United States originally designated Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism in 1979, imposing stringent financial restrictions, trade bans, and sanctions that severely limited foreign investment and economic activity.
